I stumble half-asleep into a typical Tibetan
interior, an open hearth and fire blazing in the middle of the
room, three scruffy children sitting hunched in front of the
flames, hands outstretched, palms absorbing the heat like
miniature solar panels. The glow of the flickering flames
illuminates faces in the dark room as they stare sleepily into
the fire, clothes dirt-brown, hair standing on end, coated in
dust.
