Day 6 - Meeting the Mountain     Goodness gracious!

I must use sunglasses to gaze across the open desert-like valley, at the Annapurnas, their sides blindingly silver-white. Snow blows off the crest of Annapurna II like smoke against the cobalt-blue sky. Massive clumps of snow and ice cling to the almost vertical north face, leaving ugly overhangs suspended dangerously. The peaks and ridges, fluted columns of ice and snow, are another world, totally removed from this one.
