Data Source History: The source of information for the streams layer was a map entitled "Natural and Improved Watercourses" (1989) obtained from the Engineering Department of Oakland's Office of Planning and Building. The map shows general locations of watercourse improvements made by the Alameda County Flood Control and Water Conservation District and the City of Oakland, as well as natural streams. Refer to City Sewer Sheets and County files for exact locations and types of improvements. Linework for this layer was digitized by Julia Howlett of JRH Consulting. Julia scanned a paper map showing natural and improved streams and watercourses, then registered, and rectified the scan to the City of Oakland's Sewer Grid in Arc/Info and used it for heads-up digitizing reference in conjunction with the Streets coverage as a backdrop to check accuracy of locations.
